As of May 6, 2026, getting a caregiver card for a Medical Cannabis Patient just became a whole lot easier.
Medical cannabis caregivers and guardians no longer have to undergo a background check. Instead, they must attest they’ve never violated the requirements of DHHS medical cannabis statute, been convicted of a felony within the past 10 years, or been convicted of a misdemeanor for drug distribution after December 10, 2018. Below are the steps to becoming a caregiver. If you need additional help, please come to a Beehive Farmacy location, and we can walk you through the steps.
- A medical cannabis patient must request you as a caregiver in their electronic verification system (EVS) account.
- You’ll get an email from the EVS when a patient requests you as their caregiver.
- Go to the EVS
- Create an account in the EVS.
- Look at the pictures under the “Visual Help” heading to see how to create an account in the EVS.
- Complete the caregiver request by submitting a caregiver application in the EVS.
- Download your medical cannabis caregiver card from the EVS. You can print or save your card to your device.
- You must show your card and a valid ID each time you go to a medical cannabis pharmacy.
- Buy medical cannabis after the patient has met with a medical cannabis pharmacist.
- You can buy medical cannabis after the patient has met with a medical cannabis pharmacist. You can buy cannabis from any Utah medical cannabis pharmacy.
- Click here to schedule an in-person or remote consultation with a Beehive pharmacist in Salt Lake City or Brigham City.
- Your medical cannabis card will expire on the same day as the patient’s card.
If you have any additional questions, please schedule a consultation with a pharmacist at BeehiveMed.com.
