Medical cannabis sales trends are important to us for obvious reasons. Not only do they directly affect our bottom line as a medical cannabis pharmacy, but they also help us understand what our customers want, need, and expect. So we pay attention to the most popular products among patients throughout the state.
If you are interested in knowing what patients are buying, you can always log on to the state’s website and navigate to the data and reports page. There, you will find monthly reports in PDF format. As for the August report, it clearly shows what patients are buying.
Reported by Product Category
The state report doesn’t look at every individual product a medical cannabis pharmacy might sell. Instead, it reports on products by category. Here are the five categories the state tracks and their sales for the month of August 2025:
1. Cartridges and Pens
The top category of medical cannabis sales is the vaping category. Patients purchased more than $7 million in vape cartridges, pens, and associated products. We have seen a steady demand for these products at our two locations in Salt Lake City and Brigham City.
Patients appreciate vaping because it is easy, and it delivers symptom relief quite quickly. They appreciate it so much that the second-place category doesn’t even come close in terms of sales.
2. Flower
Under the flower category are buds, finished flowers, and pre-packs. The state’s August report shows total sales of more than $4.8 million. As you probably know, products in this category cannot be used with combustion.
Patients may use buds and finished flowers in specialized dry-heating vaporizers. They might also use the products as an ingredient for cooking. Regardless, buds and finished flowers remain popular among Utah medical cannabis patients.
3. Infused Edibles
Patients purchased more than $2.6 million in infused edibles during August. This category includes products like gummies, lozenges, tinctures, liquid suspensions, capsules, and pills. Pretty much anything that is infused with THC and ingested orally belongs in this category.
Infused edibles are preferred when more subtle delivery is required. The products are convenient to transport and consume, making them ideal for scenarios in which vaping and dry heating are not appropriate.
4. Infused Non-Edibles
The final two categories of medical cannabis products did not reach the million-dollar mark in August. They rarely do. The first of the two is the infused non-edible category. Products in this category generated sales of just over $115,000 last month.
If you use balms, gels, lotions, patches, or other topical products, you are using products in the infused non-edible category. They are pretty specific in terms of use cases, and you might be using them based on the advice of your medical provider or pharmacist.
5. Non-Medicated Products
Finally, the state does keep track of non-medicated product sales. Products in this category include vape pens, vaporizers, dry heating devices, grinders, batteries, and cases. August sales of non-medicated products came in at about $119,800.
Robust Sales Continue Across the State
Add up all of the sales numbers and you get a total in excess of $14 million last month. If nothing else, the state report demonstrates robust sales continuing across Utah. That’s good for medical cannabis patients whose access to recommended medications makes a significant difference.
As a medical cannabis user, what types of products do you prefer? Let us know next time you pay a visit to either our Salt Lake City or Brigham City location. We need to know what you want so that we can stock our shelves accordingly.
