Visiting a Utah medical cannabis pharmacy for the first time can be a little intimidating. From product selection to varying brands and just not knowing what the right choice should be, feeling overwhelmed is normal for new patients. But rest assured that the Beehive Farmacy team is committed to making your experience a positive one.
To that end, we have put together a list of helpful tips for your consideration. When you visit our Salt Lake City or Brigham City location, we want you to feel comfortable. Do not be afraid to ask questions or share your concerns with us.
Before Your Visit
Before your first visit, make sure you have a valid medical cannabis card. Perhaps this sounds obvious. Yet you would be surprised by the number of people who don’t understand the state’s card requirements. Getting a card isn’t difficult if you have a qualifying medical condition. We lay out the steps elsewhere on our site.
Also note:
- Cash Payments – Medical cannabis in Utah is generally a cash-only business. Though it’s inconvenient, federal banking regulations dictate a cash payment model. Plan to stop by the ATM before you head to the pharmacy.
- Pharmacist Consultations – State law requires that medical cannabis pharmacies have a licensed pharmacist, also known as a pharmacy medical provider (PMP), on-site during business hours. Plan on consulting with the PMP on your initial visit.
A key part of having a good pharmacy experience is planning. So take advantage of these three tips to ensure that your visit is seamless and positive.
At the Pharmacy
Pharmacy agents and PMPs staff medical cannabis pharmacies in Utah. Both are there to help you in whatever way they can. We recommend letting the pharmacy agent know that this is your first visit. And if you will be using medical cannabis for the first time after leaving the pharmacy, let the agent know that as well.
Interfacing with the agent in this way gives them the opportunity to recommend appropriate products. The pharmacy agent can explain everything from delivery methods to cannabinoid and terpene profiles.
Given that it is your first visit, plan to have at least a brief meeting with the PMP. That initial consultation is required by law. The PMP will review a variety of things with you, including potential drug interactions and how to use each type of medical cannabis product safely.
Finally, we strongly recommend asking any questions that come to mind. Medical cannabis is a complex topic with plenty for you to learn. But don’t worry. You will learn everything you need to know over time. The pharmacy team is there to help you along the way. They love questions. So ask them.
After Your Visit
Once you have made your purchases and head home, plan to store your medicines properly. Storage in a childproof container kept out of the reach of children and pets is ideal. Also, it’s a good idea to bring an opaque bag with you to carry your medicines in. You are required to transport the products discretely.
We also recommend:
- Tracking your medical cannabis consumption daily
- Following up with the PMP on your next visit
- Regularly checking your EVS account to make sure things are in order
Purchasing medical cannabis at a state-licensed pharmacy gets easier with each visit. So even if your first visit seems a bit intimidating, do your best to relax. You will be an old pro a couple of months down the road. All the while, the Beehive Farmacy team will be here to help guide you.
